Back Into the Swing

The past few days of The Hartzell Family Story took place at Kaiser in beautiful Riverside, CA (Insert sarcasm here).

Grandma (Ryan's side) has been hospitalized for a little over a week with an aggressive case of Meningitis. Yesterday, Ryan called home from work saying Grandma's condition had become a lot more serious. I wondered whether he should leave work so we could go be with her. He called back fifteen minutes later saying he was on his way home. I managed to find the little one (and myself) a spit up/poop free outfit and get some breakfast in both of our tummies just in time. We were Kaiser-bound by noon.

I was a little concerned on the drive up. Okay, a lot concerned, because I wasn't sure of Grandma's mental/emotional conditon and I dreaded seeing her in such a state.

When we walked in, it was a little bit of a shock. We weren't used to seeing Grandma that "out-of-it." We got to spend some good time with her and even had a few laughs. She was even planning a cup cake party for everyone! Still, she has been on our minds constantly as we try to remain hopeful. Earlier today, we heard Grandma was doing a great deal better and  Ryan even got to talk to her on the phone! She was aware and sounded like herself again, according to him. We are are ecstatic to know she is regaining some strength and sass :) Although we are hopeful, Grandma and Grandpa could still use all the prayer and positive energy they can get.

We're so glad you're feeling better, Grandma. Love you!

In short..
